The microenvironment plays a key role in cancer. It is a major determinant of tumor growth. It also controls how efficacious a treatment will be against the tumor. The tumor microenvironment is often a big reason why treatment fails. Yet, the microenvironment has been understudied due to the difficulty of sampling and modifying it.
IMcoMET’s in vitro tool uses the proprietary M-duo microneedle technology to help you locally control and sample the microenvironment of your 3D tissue cultures or tissue biopsies. Position the microneedles at your spot of interest and inject compounds to create local compound gradients. Or extract, to sample the soluble microenvironment. It’s not limited to compounds though. You can inject and extract cells as well. Study cell death, migration, differentiation, or immune function. Measure protein expression and metabolites. Collect vesicles and exosomes. Spatiotemporally and minimally invasive.

The medical grade M-duo microneedles have an inner diameter as small as 150 micrometer. They can flush local volumes in the microliter-range continuously or periodically. Currently, up to 4 M-duo’s can be used simultaneously. Fluid flow is individually controlled by a water-resistant microperistaltic pumps-unit that accommodates flow speeds ranging as wide as 150 nL/min to 800 microL/min. The tool is compatible with any standard cell culture plate format. But, if you want your own format, that’s also possible. We can customize your M-duo to fit your needs.
